If you don't yet have a slide scanner, here are some handy
alternatives in order of increasing cost:
Photo CD 
- Use any good 35mm camera.
- Record up to 100 images on one Kodak PhotoCD.
- Store 5 levels of resolution (up to 16 times that of
analog TV).
- Edit with well-known products (e.g. Paintshop Pro, CorelDraw
and Adobe
Photoshop).
- Save money on equipment (typically $10 per CD + $
few/image).
- Purchase at nearly all good
photo-finishing shops.
A higher resolution system is available for
professional photographers.
Advanced Photo System
- Use special 35 mm camera (e.g. Kodak Advantix
and other major manufacturers).
- Print without negatives from magnetically-backed film in
three standard print sizes.
- Record direct to floppy disk without negatives (see
inside cassette).
- Get better pictures with accurate calibration with
Magnetic Information Exchange.
- Save money on equipment (retails for $50 and up).
- Purchase at nearly all good
photo-finishing shops.
Digital Camera
- Use special Digital
Camera (e.g. Kodak DC25
and other major manufacturers).
- Record direct to floppy disk without negatives.
- Take up to 29 pictures without downloading the images.
- Purchase for $299 and up at
good camera shops.
Professional digital cameras are available
including high-end Infra Red cameras around $20K.
Photo Scanner 
- Use a flatbed photo scanner
for maximum stability and quality.
- Avoid hand-held scanners - they produce poor quality
results.
- Scan real photographs, slides and negatives for best
quality.
- Buy well-known brand names like Hewlett Packard and Compaq.
- Purchase for $150 and up at
leading computer stores.
